Patterns to Remember

Table of 2: All answers are even numbers (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 ...).

Table of 5: Every answer ends in 0 or 5 (5, 10, 15, 20, 25 ...).

Table of 9: The digits of each answer add up to 9 (9, 18, 27, 36 ... check: 1+8=9, 2+7=9, 3+6=9).

Table of 10: Just add a zero to the number (1x10=10, 2x10=20, 7x10=70).

Think about it: In the table of 9, the tens digit goes up by 1 and the ones digit goes down by 1. Try it!

Example: Using Patterns

What is 9 x 6? Using the pattern of 9: the tens digit is one less than 6, so 5. The ones digit is 9 - 5 = 4. Answer: 54.

Example: Quick Recall

Priya needs 8 garlands for Diwali decoration. Each garland has 6 flowers. How many flowers does she need?

From the table of 6: 8 x 6 = 48 flowers.
