Learning Objectives

- Students will be able to explain how weather affects our daily life.
Let Us Begin!
Is it hot outside today, or cold? Is it raining? The way the sky and air feel around us is called weather.
Weather keeps changing. Sometimes it is sunny and hot. Sometimes it rains. Sometimes it is cold and foggy. When the same kind of weather stays for a few months, we call it a season.
In India, we have three main seasons. Let us learn about them!
What Is Weather?
Weather tells us how the air and sky feel at a place on a particular day. Weather can be:
- Sunny -- bright and hot, the sun is shining.
- Cloudy -- the sky is covered with clouds.
- Rainy -- water falls from the clouds.
- Windy -- the air blows strongly.
- Cold -- the air feels chilly and we shiver.
- Foggy -- we cannot see far because of mist in the air.
Think about it: Look outside your window right now. What is the weather like today?
The Three Main Seasons in India
1. Summer Season (Grishma) -- March to June
The weather is very hot and dry. The sun shines brightly. We feel thirsty and sweaty.
- Clothes: Light cotton clothes, white or light colours.
- Food and Drinks: Watermelon, mango, lassi, lemonade (nimbu paani), ice cream, curd.
- What we do: Use fans and coolers. Drink lots of water. Stay in the shade.
2. Rainy Season (Varsha) -- July to September
It rains a lot. The sky is cloudy. Puddles form on the roads. Everything looks green and fresh.
- Clothes: Raincoat, umbrella, gumboots (waterproof shoes).
- Food and Drinks: Pakoras, hot chai, corn (bhutta), soup.
- What we do: Carry an umbrella. Avoid playing in dirty water. Be careful on wet roads.
3. Winter Season (Sheet) -- November to February
The weather is cold. Mornings are foggy. Nights are chilly. Days are short.
- Clothes: Sweater, jacket, muffler, cap, gloves, warm socks.
- Food and Drinks: Hot soup, gajar ka halwa, peanuts (moongphali), hot milk.
- What we do: Wear warm clothes. Sit in the sun. Drink warm things.
