Let Us Begin!
We eat food every day. Food gives us energy to play, study, and grow.
There are many types of food. Some food is very good for our body. Some food is not so good if we eat too much of it.
Let us learn about the food we eat!
Types of Food
| Type | Examples | Good For |
| Fruits | Mango, banana, apple, orange, guava | Give us vitamins. Keep us healthy. |
| Vegetables | Spinach, carrot, potato, tomato, peas | Give us vitamins and minerals. Make us strong. |
| Grains | Rice, wheat (roti), dal, bread | Give us energy to work and play. |
| Dairy | Milk, curd, butter, paneer, ghee | Make our bones and teeth strong. |
| Pulses | Dal, rajma, chana, moong | Help our body grow and repair. |

Healthy Food and Junk Food
Healthy food is good for our body. It helps us grow, stay strong, and feel well.
Examples of healthy food: fruits, vegetables, dal, milk, roti, rice, eggs.
Junk food has too much oil, sugar, or salt. It is tasty but not good if we eat it every day.
Examples of junk food: chips, cold drinks, chocolates, fried snacks, biscuits.
Arjun loves chips and cold drinks. His mother says, "Eat fruits and milk too! Junk food is okay sometimes, but not every day."
Where Does Our Food Come From?
| Source | Foods We Get |
| Plants | Fruits (mango, banana, apple), Vegetables (potato, tomato, spinach), Grains (rice, wheat), Pulses (dal, rajma) |
| Animals | Milk (from cow/buffalo), Eggs (from hen), Honey (from bees) |
Most of our food comes from plants! Roti is made from wheat. Rice comes from the rice plant. Dal comes from pulses. Even the vegetables in our sabzi are plants!
